Working Out at Home

It’s easy to fall off of your regular workout schedule during this crazy and scary time. Trust me - some days it’s hard to motivate myself to even get out of bed. But I’ve found working out to be a great outlet to relieve anxiety, plus it makes me feel better and helps pass the time. Another motivator: I don’t want to gain the quarantine 15 or have my clothes not fit when this is all over.

I’ve been trying to stay active most days and of course, I try to maintain balance and take rest days when my body tells me it needs a break. I wanted to share what’s been helping me stay active while at home. Hopefully what’s been helpful for me can also inspire you as well!

  • Workouts: Under normal circumstances, I’m a huge fan of going to workout classes. SoulCycle, CorePower, FlyBarre and more - it’s my favorite way to work up a sweat and stay motivated. These days, I’ve been all about doing workout class videos at home.

I’m a huge fan of Class Pass, and I’ve been loving their online workouts. Trust me - they are HARD. They have a great variety of workouts so you don’t get bored. Just a 30 minute video leaves me exhausted and covered in sweat.

To mix it up, I’ve also been using the Tone It Up app. The videos are upbeat, easy to follow and have a pretty aesthetic - the closest thing to a chic studio at home! I love that the Tone It UP videos vary in length so you can mix it up! If I’m feeling ambitious, I’ll pair a 30 minute barre class with a 15 minute ab routine to really feel the burn.

  • Walks: I love going on walks to get out and break up the day. During the week, I’ll go on a 30 min. walk around my neighborhood after dinner. It’s also a great way to decompress after the work day! On weekends, I like to do a longer walk. I’m lucky (or unlucky) that my neighborhood is very hilly so I’ll try to hit all the big hills for an extra leg/booty workout.

I’m lucky enough to work from home, so when I can’t leave my desk I try to take breaks by walking around my apartment or take laps up and down the stairs to get my blood flowing. Any little bit helps!

  • Equipment: I live in a small apartment, so I don’t have much space for extra gym equipment. Since the gyms and studios have been closed, I realized I needed some equipment to keep at home to amp up my workouts. I ordered hand weights, booty bands and ankle weights and am using them with nearly every workout. They don’t take up much space and aren’t too expensive, and they really do make a big difference.

  • Workout Clothes: When all else fails, cute new workout clothes always inspire me to get moving. So many stores are having great sales right now! I currently have this tank and these leggings in my cart.

My reward for getting workouts in? Wine or a (skinny) margarita. It’s all about balance…
